Meet Mary

For those of you who know me, you know that I’ve been longing for my dream kitchen since I started taking an interest in cooking (which was about 2 years ago).  I call my kitchen Mary.  She was the best part of the house when we moved in 6 1/2 years ago, and as we’ve slowly updated the rest of the house, she’s become very drab.  Here she is in all her plainness:

Mary is simple.  Mary fits our needs.  BUT Mary wants to become a Marilyn.  She believes that the kitchen is the heart of the home, where people can hang out, chat, and cook gourmet meals.  Right now we don’t spend that much time in there.  I feel like I’ve neglected her and let her down.  We thought about doing a few updates, like paint and a new countertop, but you can put lipstick on a pig and it’s still a pig.

I’m excited to announce that we are going for a major overhaul including new cherry cabinets, a granite countertop, new ceilings (yay for getting rid of popcorn ceilings), recessed lighting, window/floor moldings, paint, and tile backsplash.  The appliances will have to wait at least another year (unless of course I can convince the babes to go for it now).  I’m excited and am ready to start the demo! I invite you along to keep up with our updates as we continue to make our house a home!

I keep daydreaming about all the gourmet dinners I’ll cook for Ed and me, the dinner parties I’ll be hosting, but who am I really kidding?  I’m not Donna Reed; we all know that when Mary becomes Marilyn that the kitchen will become my “untouchable”room – you know, like the Italian living rooms with the plastic on the couches?  I can say that because my in-laws once had that room.  Just kidding Ed!!
